Spring Brings Farmer’s Markets Back to Seattle

Local farmer’s markets are planning their opening days with music, fun and festivities!  Here’s what’s happening near you:

Columbia City Farmer’s Market
Opening Day: Wednesday, April 27
3:00pm – 7:00pm
37th Ave S & S Edmunds Street
Seattle, WA 98118

There’s easy access to the Columbia City market on the Light Rail from SeaTac or downtown Seattle. If you need to drive, there is complimentary 2 hour parking available. There are weekly events such as cooking demos, produce tasting, live music, activities for kids, and gardening and composting information. Come for the fruits and vegetables, organic meats, hazelnuts, honey, eggs and jams. Opening day features music from the local bluegrass group Squirrel Butter and a Kids’ Tent with craft activities.

Broadway Farmer’s Market
Opening Day: Sunday, May 8

Come celebrate Mother’s Day at Broadway market’s opening day of the season. It’s the first year at their new location, and they are celebrating with a kick-off party. There will be a market blessing by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence of the Abbey of St. Joan, followed by live music from SCCC’s Jazz Ensemble at noon. SCCC’s culinary school students will create some delicious culinary treats for market shoppers to sample, and the Just Garden Project will have information about the upcoming Spring into Bed gardening event.

Lake Union Park Floating Market
Opening Day: Thursday, May 12

The FarmBoat Floating Market is held aboard the historic steamship Virginia V docked at Lake Union Park Wharf. Vendors display locally grown produce, specialty foods and artisan crafts on board the 125′ wooden vessel–just as it was done a century ago. You can tour the ship for free and learn about Puget Sound agricultural and maritime heritage while you shop. (There is plenty of space on deck to enjoy lunch with fantastic shoreline views of downtown Seattle and Lake Union).

Madrona Farmer’s Market
Opening Day: Friday, May 20
3:00pm – 7:00pm
Madrona Grocery Outlet

There are cooking demonstrations from local chefs between 4-5pm, during the market. In addition to fresh produce, there are frozen soups and meals made with local ingredients you can take home. You can also find baked goods, fudge and caramels and dairy items for sale.
