Best of Arlington Fly-In July 6 -10
July 6 – 10, Arlington, WA will be hosting their annual Fly-In. For pilots, aviation buffs and kids alike, it’s a great time for learning about airplanes, going on rides, flying model airplanes and watching incredible air show stunts.
Some of the aircraft on display at the Fly-In will include a full scale reproduction of a 1933 Stinson Model O, or Senior Trainer, The Museum of Flight’s own Douglas DC-2, and a restored WWII B-25 Bomber a Veteran of 15 combat missions during WWII.
Helicopter rides will be offered by Helicopters Northwest. They have the Pacific Northwest’s largest fleet of Robinson R-22 helicopters.
Wednesday, July 6 is Kids’ Day at the Fly-In. All kids are free (with an accompanying adult). Activities begin at 9:00am, with a special airshow at 12:00pm. The kid’s activities tent will open each day of the fly-in from 9am to 3 pm. New this year, the Arlington Fly-In will host a Carnival with rides, games and food!
Activities for kids include:

* Candy Airplane making
* Face Painting
* Bubble mania
* AHS Robotics
Bring a sack lunch or buy lunch from the carnival and food vendors. After a full morning of fun, sit back and watch a spectacular airshow! All groups and individual families are welcome. Groups with more than 5 kids can make an advance reservation by calling 360-435-5857.
Thursday, July 7
Along with all the aircraft to enjoy, lectures and kids activities, there will RC tank battles, War Bird talks, helicopter rides, and an airshow at 2pm.
Friday, July 8
A B-25 Mitchell named “Maid in the Shade” will arrive in Arlington, Washington and will be at the fly-in through Sunday, July 10. At 1:00pm there are military tank demonstrations, and a parade at 4:15pm.
Saturday, July 9
There will be a special area for open flying of model aircraft and, if you’ve never had the chance to fly a model airplane before, you’ll be able to try it out for yourself here! Also on Saturday, there will be a Fun Fly competition that is officially sanctioned by the Academy of Model Aeronautics, so you can bet that there will be some of the best pilots around showing their skills with their beautiful and graceful aircraft.
There will also be a swap meet and model aircraft enthusiasts will be on hand to answer your questions and even help you decide what kind of model might be right for you.
Sunday, July 10
Sunday’s highlight at the end of the Fly-In is an air show from 1:00pm – 2:30pm. Come and see father and son duo Bud and Ross Granley and their “YAK attack” show. The Yak-55 is a purpose-built, single-seat aerobatic airplane and the Yak-18T is a FOUR-place aerobatic touring airplane. Together, this unlikely combination makes a spectacular show–smoke, noise and an unbelievable set of maneuvers you won’t see any where else! Snap Rolls on Takeoff, Formation Roll-Arounds, Tail Slides, Inverted Hovers (!), 32-Point Rolls, the “Head-On Takeoff Criss-Cross-Snapski,” the “Budinski” and “Budoutski,” “Ratchet Wrench Roll,” “Flopping Taco,” “Budouchski,” Humpty Bump and many more!
