New American Girl Doll Stirs Controversy With Mexican-Americans

If you have daughters, you’re probably familiar with American Girl. The dolls, the books, the clothes, and the American history associated with the dolls.

The popular doll company is planning to open its first store in Washington state at Alderwood Mall on Saturday, July 16. The flagship store will be located in the Village area next to Border’s. Alderwood Mall is located at 3000 184th Street SW in Lynnwood.

“The concept they are bringing to Lynnwood has only been done in a few locations around the country.  It is a destination use that includes dining, accommodates parties, a doll hospital and the like,” says Lynnwood’s Community Development Director Paul Krauss.

Because American Girl knows the July 16-17 weekend will be an exciting one at Alderwood Mall, they have a ticketing system for the grand-opening weekend. Here’s how it works:

Each person (including children) who wishes to enter the store will receive a ticket with an assigned group number. Each group will consist of a maximum of 100 people, and there is no specific numbering within a group.

When the store opens each day July 16 and 17, groups will be announced in numerical order for admitance through the main entrance (near the Macaroni Grill and P.F. Chang’s exterior entrance).

You can shop or dine in Alderwood until your group number is called. Feel free to ask an event staff member or security officer which group is currently being admitted.

Distribution of tickets will begin at 6:00am on Saturday, July 16, and 7:00am on Sunday, July 17.

Along with the grand opening, the American Girl Summer Reading Event is coming to Alderwood’s Amerian Girl store. Your special girl is invited to decorate a craft card about her favorite book to hang on the store’s summer reading wall for all to see. Free and open to the public. For girls ages 8 and up.
