Seafair announced today that the stakes at the Albert Lee Cup Hydroplane Races Presented by AT&T and LG just got higher…a $25,000 purse will be awarded to the winner. Seafair has not seen a monetary prize at the sporting event since the 1970’s.

“The sport of hydroplane racing has made strides in bringing competitive racing and entertainment to its fans, but adding a cash driver’s purse provides a tremendous incentive for the boat camps,” said Beth Knox, President & CEO of Seafair. “This purse sponsorship by our partners AT&T and LG is a game changer and will provide an even more thrilling fan experience during Seafair Weekend.”

The purse will include $12,500 to the winning driver and $12,500 to the boat owner. In addition, the winning driver will receive a 42” LG™ LCD TV, a special edition Xbox 360 250GB Console with Kinect™, a Xbox LIVE 12 Month Gold Membership, and a LG Quantum™ Windows® Phone from AT&T and LG. Currently there are no other hydroplane races on the H1 Unlimited circuit offering a cash prize.

Come out and see one of the biggest events in Seattle – the hydroplane races –  August 3-5 at Genesee Park on Lake Washington.
