Rachel the Piggybank Celebrates 25 Years at the Market
It’s the Market’s 104th anniversary–and Rachel’s the Piggybank’s 25th birthday! Since 1986, (besides a tangle with a taxicab and a little bit of repair) Rachel the pig has been the chief fundraiser for the Market Foundation, raising funds for the Market’s senior center, child care, medical center, and foodbank. In 25 years, she has raised nearly $200,000 for the Market Foundation! And for her birthday, the Market Foundation is hoping to raise $2,500 during the month of August. You can donate $1 during the “Give A Buck and Wish Her Luck” birthday celebration, from August 7 – 20, and a little paper pig with your name on it will be displayed at one of the Market’s participating businesses.
You’ll find Rachel at home under the Market clock, ready to accept spare change from her friends and visitors. And when you come to see Rachel between 10:00am and 5:00pm August 3 – 17 (Wed, Sat, Sun only) you can purchase a special, 25th birthday tote for $5.
On August 17th, Rachel’s birthday, she is hoping for lots of Facebook likes and Tweets, giving her many happy returns!
And if you’d like to be a part of Rachel’s celebratory dinner, aka Sunset Supper at the Market on Friday, August 19, you can go to www.pikeplacemarketfoundation.org for tickets and more information. You must be 21+ to attend.
