Marta Stahlfeld, a 17-year old senior in high school, can also boast that she is a published author. Her first book, Darkwoods, “an epic tale of good and evil” can be found at local book sellers. And on Saturday, August 27, Marta will be signing her books at the Federal Way Barnes & Noble bookstore between 11:00am and 3:00pm.
What gave Marta, a Burien teen, the inspiration to write a book? “Well, we were on a family trip to Europe,” explains Marta. “I was 12, and we were staring at cathedrals (which my brother liked) and I started coming up with these ideas.”
After drafting her book, a tale about a talking mouse and talking fox, her school librarian encouraged Marta to make the story into a book. “It’s a chapter book,” says Marta. “Probably most interesting to middle schoolers and up.” What Marta likes best about the story are all the twists and turns. “You never really know who is good and who is evil,” she says.
The book went to print in April, 2011.
Plans for a second book are in the works, but in the meantime, Marta is enjoying the success of Darkwoods. Maybe someone will want to make a movie about the book? “I don’t know about that,” Marta laughs.
