Not just another card shop holiday, President Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation creating a National Grandparents Day in September, 1979. Here are some fun ways to celebrate with your grandparents in the Seattle area. All aboard?

Grandparents ride Snoqualmie Valley Railroad free when accompanied by paying grandchildren (of any age) Saturday and Sunday, September 10 & 11. The 75-minute round trip departs from Snoqualmie Depot or North Bend Depot. $12/adults, $10/seniors, $8/ages 2 to 12, free/younger than age 2.

Step into one of their restaurants on Sept 11, 12, or 13 for lunch or dinner, and grandparents will eat FREE with the purchase of an entrée (dine-in only).
