Cops: 10-Year-Old Boy Fights Off Mother’s Attacker With BB Gun
Bellingham, Wash. (CBS Seattle) — Police say a 10-year-old boy shot a man in the face with a BB gun when his mother was attacked.
According to the Bellingham Police Department, Paul R. Newman, 45, was drunk when he came home to the room he was renting from the victim. Newman thought someone tampered with the room when he wasn’t home.
Police say Newman kicked open the 46-year-old victim’s door and then started to attack and choke her.
The victim’s son ran to his mother’s aid, allegedly grabbing a board and hitting Newman with it.
The son was able to lure the suspect out of the house and locking him out. Police say Newman then tried getting back into the house through an unlocked window. As the victim tried to close the window, Newman grabbed the victim’s arm, yelling he was going to kill them both. The boy then grabbed his BB rifle and shot Newman in the face as many as four times.
The suspect ran off and the victim and her son went to a neighbor’s house and called 911.
Newman was taken to Peach Health St. Joseph ER for minor injuries. He has been arrested for second-degree assault and two counts of harassment for the death threats.
The son was unharmed and the victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Bellingham police told CBS Seattle that Newman has a history of arrests for DWI, assault, and disorderly conduct.
