Cops: Oregon Man Assaults People With Light Saber At Toys ‘R’ Us

PORTLAND, Ore. (CBS Seattle) — The force was not with one Oregon man after being accused of assaulting Toys “R” Us customers with a light saber.

Portland police say David Allen Canterbury, 33, hit at least three people with a toy light saber at the Jantzen Beach store on Dec. 14.

When police arrived on the scene, Canterbury was continuing to swing the light saber in the parking lot while yelling incoherently. They attempted to take him down with a Taser, but Canterbury was able to break one of the wires with the saber.

Officers were finally able to subdue Canterbury by wrestling him to the ground. He was subsequently taken to an area hospital for a mental evaluation.

Canterbury has been charged with assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He has a scheduled court date for Jan. 11, 2012.
