SeaTac Airport Gets Award; Launches New Music Experience
For the second year in a row, FlightStats, a flight tracking company, has honored Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, finding its on-time performance tops among major international airports. Sea-Tac also finished as a finalist in the category of best on-time performance among major North American airports.
Meantime, SeaTac Airport is announcing a new initiative to promote the region’s musicians. Your next visit to Sea-Tac Airport will include the sights and sounds of Northwest music. The Sea-Tac Airport Music Initiative, Experience the City of Music — a cooperative effort by the Port of Seattle, Seattle Music Commission and PlayNetwork — will launch this week to showcase the northwest region’s music culture and enhance the experience of millions of passengers who pass through Seattle-Tacoma International Airport each year.
Featured artists will include Quincy Jones, Ben Gibbard, Macklemore, Eddie Vedder, Heart, Nirvana more. A number of artists have recorded informational and safety announcements like the airport’s environmental practices and that there’s no smoking. Their music will play on overhead speakers, and some of the video screens at Sea-Tac will feature segments on the artists.
To launch the new music initiative, you’re invited to a kick-off celebration on Saturday, January 28 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm in Sea-Tac Airport’s Gina Marie Lindsey Arrivals Hall at the south end of the baggage claim area.
The free event will feature live performances by Seattle artists including: Fly Moon Royalty, Dusty 45’s, Carrie Clark & the Lonesome Lovers, and Recess Monkey.
Additional performances by local musicians will take place onboard Sound Transit’s Link light rail trains between 1:00pm and 6:00pm.
