SEATTLE (CBS Seattle) – The Seattle Seahawks have officially expressed interest in hosting a future Super Bowl.
According to q13fox.com, the Seahawks submited the initial paperwork the NFL. Now the Super Bowl Advisory Committee must invite the team to submit an official bid.
Future Super Bowl host cities are set through 2015 and in October, the owners are expected to vote on the 2016 Super Bowl – the 50th anniversary of the game. Rumors have spread that London or Los Angeles may host that game.
There are many requirements that a stadium and city must meet before it can host a Super Bowl, such as a 70,000 seat capacity at the stadium and 25,000 hotel rooms in the surrounding area. Neither of those will be an issue for Seattle but the one area that could cause trouble for the bid is weather.
An average temperature of 50 degrees in the month of February for outdoor venues is required. Seattle’s average temperature in February is 44 degrees. However, the owners waived the weather requirement for the 2014 Super Bowl in New Jersey. If all goes well there, it may be a good sign for Seattle.
