SEATTLE (AP) — A 21-year-old woman who recently moved to Seattle from Albuquerque, NM, to pursue her dream of becoming a chef has died of injuries suffered in an apparently random drive-by shooting.
A Harborview Medical Center nursing supervisor said Nicole Westbrook died Wednesday.
She was shot in the face early Sunday morning while walking home with her boyfriend in the Pioneer Square neighborhood.
Mayor Mike McGinn and police officials called a news conference Tuesday to ask the public for help in finding the shooter.
Westbrook was taking culinary classes at the Art Institute of Seattle and planned to become a chef. Marcia Westbrook described her sister as a beautiful Navajo woman who was just starting a new life. Her family says she moved to Seattle just three weeks ago.
