SEATTLE (AP) — Following objections from other cities, Seattle will have to wait a month to know if its efforts to extend bar hours beyond 2 a.m. can go forward.

Seattle officials have wanted to make last call later, arguing that law enforcement is burdened by a mass of drunks tumbling out of night clubs and bars.

After Seattle presented its proposal, Washington state Liquor Control Board commissioners held four hearings around the state and heard objections from cities like Spokane and Vancouver.

Liquor board spokesman Brian Smith says the three-person commission delayed the vote because they wanted to gather more feedback and information.

The vote itself will not automatically change last call in Seattle. It will set up the mechanism for the city to apply for an exemption to state law.
