ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CBS Seattle) – Police have arrested a woman who is accused of killing her boyfriend by pouring gasoline on him and lighting him on fire.
The Anchorage Daily News reports that Gina Virgilio, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder, arson, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and assault of 24-year-old Michael Gonzalez.
Police told the Daily News states that she originally told authorities that the victim was “acting crazy” from drinking. Virgilio told police that her boyfriend was drinking gasoline from a red plastic cup and spitting it onto the carpet and couch, which set the fire. She said she felt like it was “me or him” as she ran out of the apartment, according to the paper.
Police say that Virgilio confessed the crime to her mother, telling her that “she poured gas on and around the couch where he was sleeping” and then lit him on fire.
According to the Daily News, her mother told police that her daughter said she was able to hear the victim yell “Hot! Hot!” as he was being set on fire.
Virgilio was taken into Providence Alaska Medical Center where she allegedly confessed to the murder.
