Spend the night under the stars with National Wildlife Federation and take your family’s first step into a lifetime filled with healthy, outdoor fun. This summer, thousands of families will come together for a night of exploration and fun as part of Great American Backyard Campout. All you need is a taste for adventure and a desire to share the great outdoors with your kids! The Great American Backyard Campout is an event from the National Wildlife Federation’s Be Out There campaign. You can register your family’s own campout at http://www.nwf.org. Plan your own camping trip, or join one of these campouts and activities:

From 3:00pm Saturday until 10:00am Sunday, join everyone across America celebrating the Great American Campout! Experience family camping the easy way at Silver Lake. Pitch a tent, build a shelter and learn to camp comfortably; Discover Dutch oven cooking; Learn to build a campfire; Enjoy singing around the fire and s’mores; Fuel up with a free Sunday breakfast! Bring a cooler with something to grill for dinner and your own camping gear. Families that need to may borrow from a limited supply of tents and sleeping bags. The cost is $15 per five-person family or $5 per individual. Register with Everett Parks and Recreation by calling 425.257.8300 ext. 2.

Thanks to REI and Whole Foods this event has been made possible again this year. From 3:00pm on July 7 until 11:00am on July 8, camp out under the stars at Farrel-McWhirter Park. Bring a favorite picnic dish to share with your fellow campers, and hotdogs off the grill will be provided for dinner. You’ll also enjoy a late night snack of s’mores and a light breakfast of juice, muffins and fruit. Bring your own sleeping bag and a tent.
