Police Name Officers In Shooting

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Anchorage police have released the names of two officers involved in the fatal shooting of a 59-year-old man who reportedly pointed an air gun designed to look like a pistol.

Police say officers Michael Jones and Bryan Heinz fired their weapons in the shooting Sunday night in south Anchorage.

Fifty-nine-year-old Harry Smith was taken to a hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead later that night.

Per department policy, the names of the officers involved were not released for three days and they were placed on administrative leave for three days.

Police say Smith was shot at his home after he threatened to kill others in the house and then himself, and pointed the air gun.
