ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Alaska State Troopers say a search is under way for a man last seen competing in the Mount Marathon race in Seward held Wednesday on the Fourth of July holiday.

The Anchorage Daily News says 66-year-old Michael Lemaitre of Anchorage was seen by race officials about 200 yards from the top of the mountain.

Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters says he is believed to have poor eyesight and was not wearing his glasses when last seen on the 3,022-foot mountain. He was wearing bib number 548.

The weather in Seward has been rainy and foggy.

Lemaitre’s family reported him missing to authorities at about 9 p.m.

Peters says a trooper helicopter began searching for him at 2:18 a.m.

The Alaska Mountain Rescue Group also is involved in the search
