(AP/CBS Seattle) — The 19-year-old man who was hospitalized after getting into trouble in a fast-moving section of the Green River on Monday remains in critical condition.
The man walked with his family Monday afternoon to swim initially in a shallow, slow-moving part of the river, according to the King County Sheriff’s Department. After getting in, he struggled and went underwater. The currents swept him into a fast-moving area of the river, leading his father to jump in to try and save him.
Other swimmers helped bring the young man to shore. He was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.
Despite recent warm weather, officials say the water in that particular area of the Green River was just 40 degrees.
