RAVENSDALE, Wash. (AP) — A King County sheriff’s spokeswoman says a 19-year-old swimmer who was rescued after he got into trouble in a fast-moving section of the Green River has died.
Sgt. Cindi West said Tuesday that the Ravensdale, Wash., man died Monday night. He had been airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
His name was not immediately released.
The young man had walked with his family Monday afternoon to swim initially in a shallow, slow-moving part of the river. He struggled and went under when he moved to an area with a stronger current. West says the young man’s father swam out to help him but was unable to hang on to him. Other swimmers helped bring the young man to shore.
