ST. HELENS, Ore. (AP) — The Coast Guard is investigating a boat accident at the Heritage Maritime Festival in St. Helens, Ore.
KATU-TIV reports a steam wheeler backed into a replica pirate ship and almost rolled over it at the festival on Friday.
The pirate ship was on its first voyage and had just docked. Shuhe Hawkins was taking pictures when the 20-foot-tall Sternwheeler Portland backed into his new boat.
Nobody was hurt and eventually the sternwheeler started pulling forward again.
Repair crews worked on Hawkins’ boat on Saturday to make sure it can sail after the festival ends on Sunday.
Hawkins says the crew on the steamboat was apologetic.
It was the first time in four years the sternwheeler has cruised downriver. Normally it stays docked along the Portland waterfront.
