While you’re out shopping for back to school items, why not pick up a few extra supplies for local kids in need? Here are some drives near you that would appreciate a helping hand.

Wellspring Family Services has been helping people in need since 1892, when Seattle and King County were only 40 years old. Encourage everyone you know to donate by collecting donations at your home, work, or in your community. Holding a drive for these essential items will ensure that all children have the basic supplies they need to succeed in school! Wellspring’s Back-to-School Wish list includes: Crayons, Colored Pencils & Markers, Highlighters, Scientific Calculators, Small & Large Scissors, Pens & Pencils, Pink Erasers & Glue Sticks, Spiral & Composition Notebooks, Wide & College Ruled Paper, 3-Ring Binders & 2-Pocket Folders, New Outfits (sizes 6X to 14 & Teen sizes), and New Shoes. You can plan your delivery to the Baby Boutique during Wellspring’s business hours of 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. You can also drop off during Baby Boutique’s extended hours on Tuesdays until 7pm.

Be a part of the Back-To-School Brigade. Operation Homefront is partnering with Dollar Tree to collect school supplies for military kids. Go to your local Dollar Tree before August 6 to purchase and donate school supplies for struggling military families. Operation Homefront’s 2012 Back-To-School Brigade program provides backpacks full of school supplies to local military kids in need. In 2011, the Back-To-School Brigade program raised over $2 million in school supplies nationwide through its partnership with Dollar Tree. Through the generosity of individual and corporate contributors, Operation Homefront provided 33,000 backpacks to children of military service members.
