The spirit of the Umoja Fest African Heritage Festival & Parade is one that spans more than six decades. A tradition since the 1940s, Seattle has hosted the annual African American community festival and parade as a celebration of the city’s ethnic diversity. Umoja (“unity”) Fest African American Heritage Parade March will take place on Saturday, August 4 at 1:00pm. The parade will go from 23rd & Union to Judkins Park. There will be three days of musical entertainment of all varieties, children’s group performances, dance, oration national recording artists, food, bargains, and plenty of fun.

The festival includes the annual Art Show, the annual Merchants’ Sidewalk Sale, live music, food vendors, arts and crafts booths, pony rides, inflatable rides, clowns and magicians, and a beer garden. And, of course, the Seafair Parade and Kid’s Parade.

Visitors can sink their teeth into a full menu of shark fun this Saturday at Sharks! The sharks will receive special treats to devour called enrichment. Special activities will be held in both the North and South Pacific Aquariums. In the South Pacific Aquarium, a shark feed is scheduled at 11:00am with the sharks chomping on some of their favorite treats. There will also be two divers down at 2:00pm at the North Pacific Aquarium. All Sharks! activities are FREE with admission.
