Priest Accused Of Chasing Boy Down Street In His Underwear After Abuse
WOODBURN, Ore. (CBS Seattle) — A local priest has been accused of chasing a boy down the street around midnight on Sunday after he had reportedly abused him, wearing only his underwear at the time.
According to The Oregonian, area resident James Curths witnessed Rev. Angel Armando Perez of St. Luke Catholic Church in Woodburn chasing an unidentified 12-year-old boy down the street. The child reportedly begged for help.
Curths, along with his sister-in-law Heather Rodriguez, watched as Perez rounded the corner, then stood a distance away from the small assembly in his underwear.
“He was staring at us,” Rodriguez told the paper. “Then he stood there with his hands on his hips like, ‘You’re really not going to give him to me?'”
When she and Curths informed him they were calling the police, Perez then allegedly jogged away.
The priest was arrested Monday, after the boy gave authorities details regarding the abuse he had reportedly suffered.
Court documents released on Tuesday and posted by the paper assert that Perez was intoxicated after drinking too much at a community event, and blacked out while watching a movie with the boy before the reported abuse occurred.
“[Perez] told Sergeant Wilson that he remembers that he went upstairs and brushed his teeth,” the documents read. “He came down stairs and saw the look on [the victim’s] face. The look was of ‘disappointment and anger.'”
The victim told police that after the movie, he fell asleep on a nearby air mattress, and was awakened by “a couple of flashes.”
“[The victim] stated that as he opened his eyes, he saw Father Angel next to the air mattress with a cell phone in his hand and his other hand on [the victim’s] penis,” the account continued.
