It’s nearly the end of summer, and if you haven’t had enough play time, it’s time to celebrate a Day of Play! Both Redmond and Seattle are planning days for you and your kids to get outside, and enjoy the day before the school bell rings!

Run, skate, jump… there’s something for everyone! Take part in recreation and fitness demos including Kangoo Jumps, Spin Biking, Z-Ultimate martial arts, and get jazzed with Jazzercise!
Hoop it up with Redmond’s 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament for boys and girls grades 3-8. The tournament will run from approximately 2:00pm – 7:00pm. Games will be played outdoors rain or shine at the Redmond City Hall Campus. Teams are limited to a maximum of four players; the team entry fee is $60. Round up some players and register online HERE. Spencer Hawes, former Washington Husky and current Philadelphia 76ers center, will make a special appearance.
On your mark, get set and go for a 5K run/walk along the paved Sammamish River Trail. Competitive and non-competitive racers will find the course flat, fast and family friendly. Run with Suzy and Matt Hoover, TV’s Biggest Loser Couple. Prizes in top categories will be awarded. Race registration begins at 4:00pm at Redmond City Hall Campus and the race starts at 6:00pm.
Skate425 will also be on site providing thrilling skate demos and clinics. No experience needed, all ages and abilities welcome. Skate equipment available on-site, first come, first served. Enjoy an experienced skater’s showcase and a best trick finale.
The fun continues with Massive Monkees, a Seattle-based “B-Boy Breakdance” group who will perform and teach the crowd some new moves. The Massive Monkees have performed on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew and around the world. Join-in with Rene Bibaud, of Rope Works, as she entertains with a dynamic and interactive jump rope performance, and meet the Mariner Moose and Seattle Seahawks Blitz!

As part of Seattle Parks and Rec’s Healthy Parks, Healthy You initiative, join in the Big Day of Play at Magnuson Park! It’s a festival full of fun, food and music for the whole family. There will be great activities and programs that help families to be active together, like 3 on 3 basketball, paddling and boating activities at the beach, music, entertainment and activities celebrating cultural diversity, and creative unstructured play opportunities. Plus healthy food options from local vendors.
See the Dog Agility Demonstrations and dog friendly vendor booths. Come check out these wonderful pups from 10:00am – 1:00pm. FREE fun for the entire family.
Parking is available on the Magnuson Park Campus and at Children’s Hospital 70th and Sand Point Way. Shuttles from the parking lots to the main gate will be available.
