Swarm Of 50 Synchronized Drones Take Flight Over Austria

LINZ, Austria (CBS Seattle) — A swarm of drones lit up the night sky in Linz, Austria last week.

According to DVICE, 50 AscTec Hummingbird quadrocopters were programmed by Ars Electronica Futurelab and Ascending Technologies to perform several synchronized maneuvers.

The YouTube video shows the drones performing coordinated moves over a period of several minutes, lighting up the sky by changing colors.

DVICE reports it was the largest synchronization of quadrocopters done at once.

This type of drone – made by Ascending Technologies – is a “self-stabilizing, highly maneuverable” unmanned device that is “powerful enough for rapid accelerations,” according to the company’s website.

The quadrocopter can stay in flight up to 20 minutes and can go as fast as 50 kilometers per hour.
