Ever wanted to be an “extra” on a show or on the stage? The Seattle Opera is looking for extras for the upcoming Fidelio, and Locally Grown, a web series about quirky farmer’s markets is looking for extras for their show’s pilot shoot.

The Seattle Opera is holding auditions for supernumeraries (“extras”) of all ages and walks of life to appear in Seattle Opera’s mainstage production of Fidelio in October.

On Saturday, September 15, Seattle Opera will audition people to volunteer as non-singing, non-speaking supernumeraries for the fall production of Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio. A celebration of love overcoming tyranny, Fidelio tells the story of a devoted wife who rescues her husband, wrongly imprisoned for his political beliefs. Seattle Opera needs dozens of extras to crowd the stage for the opera’s final scene, in which prisoners and townspeople celebrate the downfall of a tyrant, the establishment of justice, and the strength of a humble person empowered by love.

To honor Beethoven’s timeless message, Seattle Opera encourages people of all ages and walks of life to audition. Because the production takes place in the present day, supernumeraries will wear their own clothing, not costumes. Supernumeraries are not compensated and must be able to commit fully to Seattle Opera’s rehearsal and performance schedule. Photos and video will be taken at the auditions; by participating you are allowing Seattle Opera to use your image for marketing and publicity purposes. For more information contact Paula Podemski at 206.676.5812. Here are the specifics:

Locally Grown is a new Seattle based web series that is in the pre-production phase. It is a comedy that celebrates quirky characters and their entertaining situations at a local farmers market. Think a mix between Portlandia, Modern Family and Arrested Development set in a fictional Northwest market. The really cool thing about it is that it is in fact locally grown – it is written in Seattle, and it’s being produced and filmed here in the Northwest!

One of Locally Grown’s goals with this project is to try to help get Seattle back on the map for television and film projects! They will be filming the first episode October 6-7. They will be featuring some guest stars and cameo by celebs that have ties to the Pacific Northwest.

Here are the ‘extras’ they are looking for: a crowd of protesters, featured folks, and colorful characters. All shapes, sizes and interesting looks are asked to apply. And if you have a special skill like juggling, playing an instrument, or other unique skills they are interested in your application. No acting experience is needed for most roles.

Shoot dates are Saturday and Sunday, October 6 and 7, in Shoreline. Some roles may need to be there both days; others may only be needed for one day or a half-day. Credit, copy of film and food will be provided.

Send headshot and resume, or a photo and a few sentences about you to extras@abundantproductions.biz.
