Census: Seattle Median Household Income Tops National Average

SEATTLE (AP) — A U.S. Census Bureau snapshot of Seattle shows that the median household income here was more than $60,000 in 2011, which is about $10,000 more than the national average.

The 2011 American Community Survey also found that the median value for an owner-occupied home was $420,400, compared to the national average of $173,600.

In the figures released Thursday, the census also found that 11.7 percent of people in Seattle don’t have health insurance coverage. The national average is 15.1 percent.

Among other tallies: Nearly 20 percent of Seattle’s population is foreign-born, putting Seattle seven percentage points above the national average and that among 25-and-older population 56.2 percent of them had a bachelor’s degree or higher, compared with 28.5 percent nationally.
