The UW Huskies were only 7 point underdogs to the #8 ranked Stanford Cardinal going into Thursday night’s game at Century Link Field, surprising considering they’d lost their last four meetings, with the last 3 total blowouts. Indeed the Dawgs were still smarting from last year’s 65-21 humiliation in Palo Alto, but where Stanford had run for 446 yards 11 months ago, the Husky defense only allowed 235 total yards (just 65 on the ground) tonight. While they couldn’t manage more than a field goal on offense in the first half, the defense held Stanford to two 3-pointers, and shut out their offense in the second. Stanford’s only touchdown came on a Trent Murphy interception of a keith Price screen pass in the 3rd quarter. Washington’s offense came alive in the 2nd half, with Bishop Sankey rushing for 144 yards, including a 61 yard touchdown romp when coach Sarkisian was going for it on 4th-and-1 late in the 3rd quarter, and another TD when Keith Price connected with Kasen Williams on a 35 yard pass play (after another gutsy 4th-and-1 conversion) with less than 5 minutes left.  Desmond Trufant picked off Josh Nunes to end Stanford’s final drive and preserve the victory, and the 56,000 in attendance went nuts. The Huskies wore black uniforms tonight, it appears to suit them well.
