Man Dies After Shooting At Alaska Trooper

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Alaska authorities say a man has died after shooting and wounding a state trooper during a traffic stop.

Authorities say a man shot at the trooper then stole the officer’s vehicle early Saturday in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. The trooper returned fire and may have wounded the man, who was found dead about a mile from the shooting scene in the trooper’s car.

The Anchorage Daily News reports the trooper suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Spokeswoman Megan Peters says the trooper pulled over a vehicle with three people in it. While the trooper was talking to a passenger, the man stepped out and fired at the officer.

It was not immediately clear if the suspect was wounded in the gunfire.

The man’s name has not been released.
