More Seattle-Everett Train Runs Halted Until Tuesday

SEATTLE (AP) — A Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway spokesman says continuing mudslides are forcing the cancellation of passenger train service between Seattle and Everett until Tuesday morning.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway has estimated the closure of tracks to Amtrak and Sound Transit trains would end on Monday, but spokesman Gus Melonas says more mudslide damaged occurred overnight Saturday.

He says passenger train service is now scheduled to restart at 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Heavy rain soaked the Puget Sound region on Saturday, pushing mud, rocks, trees and debris onto the tracks.

Melonas say freight trains continue operating.

Since Thanksgiving week, passenger train service between Seattle and Everett has been canceled at least seven days due to rains.
