SEATTLE (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a 43-year-old Shoreline, Wash., man has been sentenced in Seattle to 10 years in prison for interstate transportation of a 22-year-old woman for purposes of prostitution.

Joseph McDaniels was sentenced Tuesday. He pleaded guilty last fall.

The indictment alleged that McDaniels compelled the woman to engage in commercial sex acts through force, fraud and coercion, transporting her between Washington state and Oregon.

Court records show McDaniels is a registered sex offender who had served a 15-year sentence for robberies in the mid-1990s when he was released from state prison in early 2011. Only a few months later, McDaniels met and recruited the woman. The U.S. attorney’s office says he preyed on her youth and drug addiction and threatened to harm both her and her family.

He was arrested last May after he took the woman to Portland, Ore., for prostitution.
