TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A second set of pontoons built in Tacoma are ready to be towed to the new 520 floating bridge site on Lake Washington.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports the pontoons were put in the water on Monday and will float their way up to the Lake Washington Ship Canal in Seattle, eventually reaching the construction site.

The Tacoma-built floating concrete sections each measuring about 100 feet long and 50-60 feet wide will provide extra stability for the roadway pontoons.

The new bridge will be six lanes wide and two lanes wider than the bridge it will replace. The completed bridge will be made up of 77 pontoons — 33 forming the roadway and 44 built in Tacoma to provide additional buoyancy. Those pontoons will be bolted to the main structure outboard of the roadway sections.
