JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Alaska State Troopers say a 14-year-old boy is being held as a suspect in the death of a 13-year-old girl in southeast Alaska.
Troopers said Saturday that investigators identified the boy, from Kake, as a suspect and placed him into custody. He is being transported to a Department of Juvenile Justice holding facility in Ketchikan. His name is being withheld because he is a minor.
The body of 13-year-old Mackenzie Howard was found the night of Feb. 5 in the entryway of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Kake after a large gathering with out-of-town visitors was held at the church.
An autopsy by the State Medical Examiner Office confirmed her death was a result of a homicide.
