Corrections Officer Accused Of Offering Inmate Chocolate Chip Cookies For Sex

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. (CBS Seattle) — A corrections officer is accused of offering a female inmate homemade chocolate chip cookies for sexual favors.

Abner Canda, a 58-year-old corrections officer at the Snohomish County Jail, was charged with first-degree custodial misconduct for the alleged incidents, according to The Everett Herald.

KOMO-TV reports the 22-year-old inmate first reported the incident in January.

“I’m sorry,” she told police, according to KOMO. “I’m trying to change and be a better person now. I’m ashamed for my actions. That’s why I’m saying something.”

The first incident reportedly happened in May 2012 when she showed her breasts to Canda to get extra food. In November, the female inmate said Canda had sexual contact with her in her jail cell and this past January he offered her chocolate chip cookies for sex.

The Herald reports that another woman says she was “dating” Canda while she was behind bars.

Canda, who is on paid administrative leave, has been working for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office since 2007.
