(1090 The Fan) – Losing Lauren Jackson for the 2013 season was a blow to the Storm’s playoff hopes. Tuesday, things took a worse turn for Seattle’s WNBA team.
Storm officials announced point guard Sue Bird will undergo surgery on her right knee that will require her to miss the entire 2013 season.
Bird reportedly has a cyst that needs to be removed and rehab from the operation will take at least six months, according to team officials. Following the initial recovery time, Bird will spend the summer in Seattle with her Storm teammates.
The cyst was discovered by Bird’s doctor right before she was scheduled to go play basketball in Russia. Because she isn’t experiencing any pain in her knee, she will continue her overseas commitment with UMMC Ekaterinburg.
