Alaska Legislator: Bring Firearm Manufacturers To Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — The speaker of the Alaska House wants to bring gun manufacturers to the state.

Rep. Mike Chenault has introduced a resolution asking manufacturers of firearms and firearm accessories to consider moving their businesses to Alaska. HJR12 calls Alaska “a firearms-friendly state with excellent constitutional and statutory protections for firearms possession, use, and manufacture.”

Under the interstate commerce clause, the federal government can regulate firearm sales if firearms are sold or transported across state lines. Bringing manufacturers to Alaska would help limit federal oversight or regulation of firearms in the state.

Chenault is also the prime sponsor of HB69, which says a personal firearm possessed or manufactured in the state and remaining in the state is not subject to federal law or federal regulation, including registration.
