(1090 The Fan) – Ten days after being designated for assignment by the Mariners, Casper Wells is heading north of the border to a new club.
Mariners officials announced Wednesday the Toronto Blue Jays have claimed Wells off waivers.
The 28-year-old outfielder didn’t make the major league club coming out of spring training due largely in part by the competition presented by outfielder Jason Bay.
The Mariners acquired Wells from the Detroit Tigers in 2011 as part of the Doug Fister deadline deal. In parts of two seasons as a Mariner, Wells hit .225 with 13 doubles, 3 triples, 17 home runs and 51 RBIs. He had a .304 on-base percentage and slugged .406.
