(CBS Seattle) – Of all the summer festivals in the Seattle area, the Capitol Hill Block Party is arguably the most energetic due to its giant list of up-and-coming club bands who are usually confined to a tiny stage in a dark bar. For three days in July, dozens of these bands get to soak up UV rays and frolic on several stages on Capitol Hill.

This year, the headliners of the three day festival are extremely different and will attract unique crowds.

Friday features Girl Talk (also known as Gregg Michael Gillis) — the beat-heavy, electronic sampling phenom from Pittsburgh. Girl Talk’s 2006 album Night Ripper was ranked number 34 on Pitchfork’s Top 50 Albums of 2006 and number 22 on Rolling Stone’s Best Albums of 2006.

Saturday features Seattle’s own Pickwick who’ve been gaining national attention from their debut offering Can’t Talk Medicine.

And Sunday’s headliner, The Flaming Lips, promise to bring their legendary theatrical stage show as well as songs from their new critically-acclaimed album The Terror.
