The Costly Quality Start
(1090 The Fan) – Quality starts. Ain’t they a bitch?!
You are probably aware that Mariners starter Aaron Harang hadn’t provided one in his first four starts for the M’s. In fact, his April 26 outing against the Angels only lasted three innings after surrendering five earned runs. So if you were a betting man, you would have probably banked on Harang going less than six innings against the offensively-gifted Baltimore Orioles his next time on the mound (on May 1st).
Enter Steve Sandmeyer.
In the midst of Harang’s struggles, Sandy got on the mic and proclaimed he would purchase an Aaron Harang Mariners jersey once the one-time masterful San Diego State University alum made it to the seventh inning without giving up more than three runs.
Well, Harang ate his Wheaties on that crisp Wednesday morning and was in rare form on the mound that night: six innings, four hits, two runs (both earned), five strikeouts and a walk. The outing got his 11.37 ERA to fall to 8.68.
After Harang left the game with best start of his 2013 Seattle campaign under his belt, Sandmeyer had no choice but to call the Mariners team store and order a jersey.
Now, 1090 The Fan wants to hear from you: why do you deserve this jersey? In 100 words or less, explain to Steve why you should be the new owner of this one-of-a-kind piece of Mariners history.
