(1090 The Fan) – The sweep in Cleveland was an ugly set of four games for the Seattle Mariners. There is one accomplishment, though, that has a lot of Seattle faithful grinning.
According to the Associated Press, Indians closer Chris Perez deleted his Twitter account because of his last two outings. He took down @chrisperez54 shortly after he gave up a ninth-inning home run to Seattle’s Endy Chavez. It was the second straight poor performance by Perez, who allowed back-to-back homers in the ninth on Saturday.
As you may have guessed, several Indians fans sent Perez some colorful comments following Monday’s game.
In a statement released by the team, the two-time All-Star didn’t say why he was deactivating his account, but that it “was a personal choice I made in order to maintain the greater focus on the success of the team this season and on our shared goals moving forward.”
Perez became a target for some fans when he criticized them for not supporting the Indians.
