SEATTLE (CBS Seattle) — A 65-year-old Seattle woman is attempting to live off just water and sunlight for the next six months.
Naveena Shine, founder of “Living On Light,” started the diet on May 3 in hopes to prove that humans do not need to eat in order to survive.
“Can you imagine, if we did not have to eat, just how free our lives would be?” Shine wrote on her website. “A vast amount of time, effort and resources go into merely putting food on the table. If humans did not have to eat, we could turn our planet back into a place of beauty. Our land could return to its pristine state, used for pleasure rather than need.”
It hasn’t been all smooth sailing since Shine began this diet. In a Facebook post from Wednesday, she described her condition somewhat deteriorating.
“I had a couple of rough days where I felt weak and threw up bile. Freaked out everybody around me,” Shine wrote. “Today I am feeling well and strong again. I am now 130lbs. I still feel dizzy if I stand up quickly but I swiftly stabilize. It was warm enough outside that my hands do not freeze in the evenings.”
Shine says this is “a huge moment in history.”
“This is the beginning of a new future, possibly even a new evolution of humanity. The ‘Living On Light’ paradigm has now been born into our world,” Shine wrote. “The door has now been opened and can never be closed again.”
Shine – who has another five months left on the diet — has lost 20 pounds so far.
