Fixing The Mariners’ Current Problems
(1090 The Fan) – Thomas Holmes of the Bleacher Report thinks it’s time for the Mariners to make some drastic moves if the team ever wants to be known as a relevant franchise.
On this day last year, the Mariners were 27-37. Despite some free agent acquisitions, trades and call-ups in the past year, Mariners are sitting ugly at 29-38 in 2013.
Holmes has four suggestions for the club:
1) Move Ackley to the outfield
2) Promote Brad Miller
3) Have a good, old fashioned mid-summer fire sale
4) Clean house
In regards to pulling the cord on GM Jack Zduriencik and Manager Eric Wedge, Holmes says, “time and patience when considering their body of work in Seattle the past few years is wearing thin.” Under Zduriencik and Wedge’s watch, the team is 171-220.
However, if Wedge gets canned, the Mariners will have had eight guys manage the team since Lou Piniella’s departure after the 2002 season…
