(CBS Seattle) — Ali Thomas’s beloved beagle Comet survived a three-alarm apartment fire in Snohomish Wednesday morning thanks to a brave neighbor.

Shawn Riley told KIRO TV he saw the fire start from across the street right after he heard an explosion. He didn’t even put his shoes on before running across the street to make sure everyone was out of the building. According to KIRO, Riley saw  Comet sitting in a smoky apartment and pulled him out. All the other residents were out of the apartments.

Thomas lost everything in the fire; she was at work when it started. After being reunited Comet and learning how he was rescued, she told KIRO,“I’m just glad he’s OK. I’d just love to hug that person and say thank you.”

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
