(CBS Seattle) — A 35-year-old mother who is accused of throwing her 3-month-old daughter on the floor, told Pierce County deputies she thought the infant was trying to kill her, the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Anna Murphy is charged with second-degree child assault. Murphy pleaded not guilty in court Monday. According to the News Tribune, Murphy called 911 and told dispatchers she had harmed her child. The infant was taken to the hospital where doctors treated her for an injury to her tongue.
In charging documents, prosecutors wrote that Murphy admitted she threw her daughter on the ground because “she thought she was traveling to another dimension.” The News Tribune reports that Murphy also told doctors she was “in a house of mirrors with Hitler” and she thought her daughter was trying to kill her.
The infant’s father told investigators Murphy threatened to commit suicide about a month ago.
