ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Anchorage police have identified the man who was shot and killed by an officer after he approached the officer with knife-like weapons in each hand.

Police say in a release the man killed was 26-year-old Kenneth John.

The shooting happened Monday night in the city’s Fairview neighborhood. The officer conducted a traffic stop on John, who exited his vehicle with two bladed weapons.

The officer, who was alone, fired on John, who was taken to a hospital and later declared dead.

Detectives have interviewed witnesses and ask anyone else who saw the shooting to call 907-786-8900.

It’s the fifth officer-involved shooting incident in Anchorage this year.

The officer’s name will be released until 72 hours after the shooting. The Office of Special Prosecutions and Appeals will investigate the shooting.
