(1090 The Fan) — It’s Tuesday, July 2nd and the mighty Mariners currently stand at 35-47 — the exact same number as a year go.
One theme that has been consistent this year is bringing up the prospects and throwing them to the wolves at the Major League level. Todd Pheifer of the Bleacher Report thinks this type of operating will continue. There’s a feeling that Seattle fans will be seeing growing pains from some and major strides from others. While Mike Zunino’s progress has been a little on the slow side, his teammate Nick Franklin is backing him up with a .295/.363/.482 line.
Pheifer says the young core is going to not necessarily bring a division title back to Seattle in 2013, but they’ll give the fans “hope.”
Pheifer predicts in the second half of the season, the Taijuan Walker era will begin. He says, “Now that Walker has been promoted to Triple-A Tacoma, fans can start to speculate on when he might be promoted to the big club.” Pheifer adds, “It would not be a shock if Walker were promoted sometime in the second half.”
