Storm Waives Nakia Sanford

SEATTLE – The Seattle Storm has waived center Nakia Sanford, the team announced Thursday.

A 10-year center from Kansas, Sanford appeared in 15 games this season for Seattle, averaging 1.7 points per game and 2.0 rebounds per game. Sanford, a two-time candidate for Most Improved Player of the Year, has tallied more than 1,750 points and 1,250 rebounds in her career.

Sanford’s career started in Washington, where she spent eight years after being signed by the Mystics as a free agent on April 30, 2003. Sanford was then in Phoenix with the Mercury for two seasons, 2011-12, before signing with the Storm on Feb. 15, 2013.
