(1090 The Fan) — Two teams have checked in on the availability of some of the Mariners’ players and were told that the team is not selling at this time, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman.
Seattle’s eight-game winning streak, Raul Ibanez’s hot bat and the overall explosion of the offense is encouraging for the club. While the Mariners’ shot at a playoff spot is slim, general manager Jack Zduriencik does not want to sell off pieces that would set the team back in 2014, regardless if a player like Kendrys Morales, Raul Ibaenz or Michael Morse has a contract expiring at the end of the season.
Heyman tweeted that there’s little belief that Zduriencik would trade Morales. In fact, there’s a feeling among other clubs that Zduriencik plans to offer Morales a qualifying offer at the end of the year.
As of Wednesday, the Mariners have scored more runs than any other Major League team in July.
