(1090 The Fan) — You could sense a lack of energy from the fans watching Seahawks training camp from the grass berm at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton. News of Percy Harvin’s pending hip surgery no doubt has tempered their enthusiasm and expectations for the 2013 season.
Harvin is not expected to be ready for games until Thanksgiving or early December. His teammates are ready to do what they can to pick up the slack in his absence.
Receiver Golden Tate told us after practice, “It hurts to lose Percy for a long time like that. I know it’s killing him because he wants to be out here helping us. We’re all confident in our ability to make plays, and we’re going to have to make more plays without him around.”
Sidney Rice missed a second consecutive day of training camp as he undergoes a non-surgical procedure in Switzerland to regenerate knee cartilage. By my count, 16 players did not participate in today’s practice due to injuries, or precautionary reasons. That list still includes defensive end Cliff Avril, tight end Zach Miller, linebacker Bobby Wagner and running back Robert Turbin.
The best catch of the day belonged to a Seahawks video photographer who was perched on a 50 foot tall platform
Behind the end zone. He snagged a Steven Hauschka field goal kick with one hand.
