SEATTLE – Storm President & CEO Karen Bryant was selected to receive the Community Spirit of Seafair award, given to individuals who have made a meaningful impact on the City of Seattle.

“Seafair is a great longstanding tradition and the list of past recipients is impressive so I’m quite humbled by this honor,” said Bryant. “Given the values of the Storm and the WNBA I’m thrilled to be the first female to win this award. I want to extend a special thanks to the Seafair Foundation for recognizing me and the work of the Storm.”

The Seafair Foundation Board of Directors selected Bryant as the 2013 Community Spirit of Seafair for her work within the sports community, Boys & Girls Clubs of King County and many other organizations.

“Royal Seafair knightings are a time-honored tradition that allows us to recognize individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the region,” said Seafair President & CEO Beth Knox. “Karen Bryant has mentored countless young adults, she has paved many new pathways for a successful business plan in women’s basketball and she has served in numerous leadership positions throughout the region. We are very proud to honor her as a new member of the Seafair Royal Family.”

Past recipients of the prestigious award include Scott Carson, Herb Bridge and Phil Smart, Sr., ranking Bryant among many respected and influential Seattle icons. The award was created by Seafair in 2010 to honor individuals who have made a meaningful impact through personal or business involvement, volunteer work, and financial support.

The Seafair Foundation is a non-profit organization established as an extension of the popular Seattle Seafair Festival. The Foundation was created to build opportunities for youth through various scholarship and education programs. Through these initiatives, The Seafair Foundation works to celebrate and reward cultural diversity, education, and community engagement in the Seattle area.

The Jam with the Jets event took place on Aug. 1, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. Bryant had the privilege of joining Seafair President Beth Knox at the Seafair President’s Table for the ceremony.
